Ogotun-Ekiti is a historic town located in the Ekiti South-West Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria. The town is notable for its rich cultural heritage, agriculture, and unique traditional craft of mat weaving. It is ruled by a monarch known as the Ologotun of Ogotun-Ekiti.
Geography
Ogotun-Ekiti lies within the forest-savannah transition zone of southwestern Nigeria. It borders towns in both Ekiti and Osun State such as Igbara-Odo, Ikeji-Ile, and Ikeji-Arakeji. The terrain is predominantly lowland tropical with arable soil that supports a variety of crops and economic plants.
Economy
The economy of Ogotun-Ekiti is predominantly agrarian. Residents cultivate yam, cassava, maize, vegetables, cocoa and palm products. The town is also recognized for its traditional mat weaving craft, a skill passed down through generations.
